Japanese Institutions of Higher Education

Asmara — President Isaias Afwerki received and held talks at the Denden Hall with a delegation of Japanese Institutions of Higher Education.
In the meeting, the two sides conducted discussion on ways of fostering possible cooperation between the Eritrean and Japanese institutions of higher education in general, and the domains of education, agriculture, health, science, technology and the like in particular.
Noting that Eritrea could draw valuable lesson from the Japanese experience, President Isaias pointed out that the educational investment should not only correspond with the policies formulated but also highlight the experience of the nation so that it could bear fruitful outcome. He further expressed appreciation to the delegation for its initiative and asserted Eritrea's desire to develop relations with Japan in trade and investment, beyond the existing ties in the education sector.
Mr. Kudo Tsutomu, Director of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency in the Horn of Africa, who arrived here heading the delegation, said on his part that the Agency, in collaboration with universities and colleges, would enhance contribution in the development of Eritrean institutions of higher education and human resource capacity. He told local journalists following the meeting that the discussion with President Isaias was fruitful.Mr. Kudo Tsutomu further asserted that the Japanese side would work diligently towards translating into action the opportunities cited by President Isaias at the International Conference for African Development that took place in Tokyo in May 2008. Moreover, he pointed out that the discussion conducted with members of the Board of Eritrean Institutions of Higher Education on bilateral cooperation has helped them to get acquainted with Eritrea's priorities and the fields that could be more effective.
