The Importance of Goal Setting

The whole point of setting a goal is to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. If you set goals and work toward them diligently, you can have all the things you want. People who set and achieve their targets are people who have decided what they want, pledged to go after it and did not let anything stand in their way, short of violating the rights of others.

A proper goal gives you all the incentive you need to grow in your awareness of being a perfect expression of an infinite stream, designed for excellence and abundance. As you become more responsive and aware of your relationship with God, and of all the opportunities that have been built in, you will function more effectively in harmony with the universe's laws. Living in sync with all of this will produce results you never dreamed possible.

They say that awareness is curative. It gives deep meaning to life, because it spells the end of your robotic existence, no more going into the deep ruts formed by your negative programming and counter-productive thought life. These old ways of thinking are not ways you have chosen, they were planted in your heart when you were young by your parents, teachers and religious leaders. While some of these programs to serve you well, many of them are harmful, and is ready to be replaced. The old way to "live" has kept you from a truly abundant life.

But to really change your old habits must be replaced with new, healthy practices. With a solid goal in place serves as a constant means that you do this. Indeed, without a specific goal you hardly ever make a significant change in your life. While you are on track to achieve your goals, you learn to choose which thoughts you allow in your mind. You can see the connection between these thoughts, feelings and attitudes they produce, and ultimately the results they yield. It is not something others can do for you.

Ever notice how your life never really stays the same? You're either improving or damaging it, your actions are not neutral. As a spiritual being, your spirit is constantly looking for expansion and increased expression. When this deep desire is thwarted, you experience a feeling of dissatisfaction. The feeling is uncomfortable enough to serve as a good motivator. We hate feeling unfulfilled, and working hard to escape an uncomfortable feeling. We will do almost anything to meet this need.

This need for performance goes far beyond just things and money although they are important. They give you comfort and opportunities. It goes beyond the happy feelings or a sense of peace, although they are also important. Our efforts for the full performance includes these things, but goes so much further, it is a deep desire for a great purpose, something that catapults you into creativity, into meaningful and effective service.

Great, you were created to pursue worthy goals. How do you set them? How do you go after them? What can you do to ensure you achieve these grand goals?

Half the battle with the setting of targets is to define exactly what it is you want. Sounds easy enough, you can answer this question at a fine restaurant on your birthday, when you get your hair cut. But when it comes to the big "what would you" question, mind go blank. We do not know what is okay to pray about. What is too much? Do I shoot? How will I feel if I ask for something which is beyond the ability?

Wow, such bad programming we get! Ask any kid what they want to be when they grow up and you'll hear answers such as: the President, an astronaut, a gazillionaire, a cat, a rock star. Nothing seems impossible, nothing seems like it will come back to haunt you if it does not work out.

Decide what you want is risky. Tell anyone else feel uncomfortable. You might feel like you've got to preface it with something like, "Do not tell anyone, you can keep a secret, I know it sounds crazy, but" But you know what? People who set and achieve awesome goals are risk takers, they have learned to be. They know they have had the privilege and duty to design their own lives, make their own decisions. They dared to dream and dream big. The power is in to go after what you want, not to go after what you need.

Do not you think has what it takes to achieve your goal? So here is some good news, you've already got everything that could ever be necessary to produce great results in your life. You have access to everything you need, whether you're watching it right now or not. So do not worry about that when choosing targets. Suppose you have every resource you need at your fingertips, because you do.
