Puppets

What are the Puppets?

A doll is defined as an artificial creation designed to resemble a character (either human, animal or other form of human-like being). A puppeteer operates puppet using rods, cords, or his hands to manipulate it to move the way a living being would.

Construction:

Marionettes is supported by almost everything. They only need to represent a specific number, and have enough points of articulation for the puppeteer to move them convincing.

Hand Puppets:

Hand puppets puppeteer involve placing his hand up in the trunk and head of the puppet. His fingers control the jaw, and can deliver a large amount of expressiveness as a result.

Marionettes and Rod Puppets:

Marionettes (controlled by strings) and Rod puppets (controlled by metal or wooden rods) tend to give control of the puppet's entire body. Although their faces are less expressive than hand puppets, they can usually move their limbs more realistic.

Shadow Puppets:

Shadow puppets are designed to project a silhouette on a lit white sheet. They are usually a type of rod puppet, even if their design allows them to interact with their lamp lighter (seems to grow or shrink, for example).

Combination Puppets:

Some puppets - such as Kermit the Frog-uses a combination of puppet types. (A hand is used to control his face, while spelling his hands and arms.)

Everyone has pulled out a sock at some point in their childhood or put a marker in their hands to make a puppet. Today it is even possible to create a full shadow puppet performance in your living room with a children's book and a flashlight. It is unclear how long the puppets have existed, or where they originated. Each culture used a kind of puppet performances in their history. Puppets have also been referenced in ancient literature.

Legend:

An Indian Hindu legend attributes the creation of the first puppet and puppeteer to Brahma, the creator. In legend, Brahma banishes the puppeteer to the ground when his wife, Saraswati, is more fascinated by puppets than he expected or wanted her to be.

Ancient Texts:

"The Ramayana", an ancient Indian epic poem from the fourth century BC, using hand and shadow puppetry to tell the life of a prince. The manuscript was discovered in Sitabenga Cave in India by archaeologists.

Shadow Puppetry:

Shadow puppet comes more than 2000 years ago in China. It began when a minister who was inspired by the shadows of children playing with dolls. He created a puppet and performed for Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty.

Luminescent Theater:

In 1958 the theater luminescent established in Czechoslovakia. Puppets were coated with paint and were lit underneath by using ultraviolet light to show. The techniques that were invented by Frantisek Tvrdek.

World Puppets:

Clay figures attached, pull wires was used in Greece for the rituals performed to honor Dionysus, the god of wine. The Romans made puppets that were manipulated by a rod attached to strings. These dolls were called simulacra. Javanese puppets were made in East Asia, and consisted of a movable wooden head on a wooden stick.

To run a Puppet:

Instructions:

Step 1: Put your hand in the puppet. Stick your fingers through the loops on the top and bottom of the mouth, which keeps your hand in place and makes it easier to maneuver in the mouth.

Step 2: Play with the puppet in front of the mirror, open your mouth to sync with each syllable of every word you say. In other words, if you say the word "ca-ter-pil-lar" open mouth at the beginning of each of the four syllables in the word and it closes at the end of each syllable, so you want to open and close the mouth four times.

Step 3: Hold the head of the puppet just did not look too far up or too far down. Give it a little animation during the production. In other words, tilting his head when listening or confused, nodded at the conclusion of the contract or look down a little when shy or guilty.
