How To Do More Work In Less Time

If you're like most people, your day is a hectic blur where the amount of things you must do each day only grows larger and larger. With this extra work comes the sense that you just do not get as much done as you used to. Tasks that should have been completed today are being putt off tomorrow. When morning comes, they set out again for another day. It is a vicious circle, and you know you need to break it, but how?

Although it may seem as days become shorter, they are not. You still have the same amount of time to get things done as you have always done. You have simply forgotten how to manage your time efficiently.

Learning how to squeeze more time out of your day, you first need to look at your daily "to do" list. Is it too big or too ambitious? Trim away the excess and keep only those activities that you absolutely have to finish. List them in order from most important to least important. At the end of your list, throw one or two activities you would like to have done by not really need to necessarily be finished today. As your day progresses, refer to your list often to be motivated to perform the tasks at hand. If other functions come together, not on your list, nix them and put them on the next day's list.

Besides having a clear map of what needs to be done for the day, you can save time by not spending more time than is needed on any task, and by not wasting time on less important. Here are a few common time zappers:

* E-mail texts, and IMs - While it is true that technology has allowed us freedom to do so many things, many of today's most popular forms of communication wasted more time than they save. It is so much quicker to just pick up the phone and rattle off a few things than it is to write out messages to people. Admittedly, text messages and emails is a fantastic way of sending a single message to multiple recipients, but if you only need to communicate with someone the old-fashioned phone call may be your best bet.

* Socializing - Excess socialization can submit a project delayed no matter whether it is work or home project. Take too many breaks and not to the task can also leave you without enough time to finish your project. To avoid this, unless socialization for scheduled breaks and down times. Strive to finish your project as quickly as possible in hopes of finishing early.

Remember what we put off tomorrow, will still be there tomorrow, but if you finish your work early, could tomorrow be a day of rest and relaxation. And we all could use more days like that.
