Get AICTE approval for Five Engg colleges

Even as the entrance results are scheduled to be announced on Monday, five engineering colleges from the State have failed to get the approval of All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for admissions for 2009-10 academic year. All the five colleges are self-financing colleges, with one among them managed by the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), an autonomous body under the State Government and the others are in the private sector. The reasons for withholding the approval included the lack of infrastructure, complaints against the managements and lapses in submitting the compliance report in time. As per the status of approval published in the AICTE website, the colleges that have not received approval for admission for the year 2009-10 are Mary Mata College of Engineering and Technology, Paliyode, Thiruvananthapuram, Veda Vyasa Institute of Technology, Ponnempadam, Malappuram, Younus College of Engineering, Vadakkevila, Kollam, Prime College of Engineering for Women, Erattayal, Palakkad and College of Engineering, Chengannur, under the IHRD. Mary Mata College affiliated to Kerala University had been in the eye of a controversies for the past many years for various issues including mass copying and issues relating to the transfer of the ownership of the college. The college have 300 seats with 60 seats each for civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, information technology and mechanical engineering.
